MSTP Retreat 2005

The 11th Annual MSTP Student-Faculty Retreat was held on Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, August 14-15, 2005 at Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center in Zion, Illinois (847) 625-7300. The retreat provided time for students and faculty to gather in a relaxed setting, afforded opportunities to build community through scientific exchange (research talks and research poster presentation), professional development (faculty keynote speaker, alumnus speaker, M3 and M4 student-faculty panel), and a variety of activities, including swimming and water skiing in Lake Michigan, biking, hiking, and a bonfire on the beach. The conference site is near several attractions - Six Flags Great America in Gurnee, Ravinia in Highland Park, Lambs Farm in Libertyville and Gurnee Mills Outlet Mall. Hossein Ardehali, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine - Cardiology Division at Northwestern University, was the NU Faculty Speaker in 2005. Neil Chi, M.D., Ph.D., who graduated from the NU MSTP in 1998 and is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Medicine - Cardiology Division at the University of California - San Francisco, wasthe NU MSTP Alumni Speaker in 2005.

The Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center is ~40 miles from Chicago (1.0 hour drive) and the Student Council organized a ride-share.

The Illinois Beach Resort and Conference Center is also accessible via the commuter train (Metra) to Waukegan, Illinois, from which rides will be arranged to and from the conference center in Zion, Illinois.
