MSTP Retreat 2006

MSTP Retreat at the Harbor Grand Hotel in New Buffalo, Michigan, August 13-14, 2006

The 12th Annual MSTP Student-Faculty Retreat was held on Sunday morning through Monday afternoon, August 13-14, 2006 at the Harbor Grand Hotel in New Buffalo, Michigan. The retreat provided time for MSTP students and faculty to gather in a relaxed setting, afforded opportunities to build community through scientific exchange (research talks and research poster presentation), professional development (faculty keynote speaker, alumna speaker, M3 and M4 student-faculty panel), and a variety of activities, including swimming and water skiing in Lake Michigan, biking, and hiking. Dr. Lucy Godley (NU MSTP Class of 1997) was the Alumna Speaker and Dr. Alan Hauser was the MSTP Faculty Speaker at the 2006 Retreat.

Below is our group photo from the 2006 retreat at the Harbor Grand Hotel at New Buffalo, Michigan.

Lucy Godley, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Chicago, is the Alumna Speaker at the 2006 Retreat.

She studies the molecular mechanisms of tumorigenesis, specifically how cancer cells develop altered DNA methylation and the consequences of the disturbed methylation and the secondary events that occur during leukemogenesis.  Click here for more information on Dr. Godley's research.

Alan Hauser, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor of Microbiology-Immunology at Northwestern University, is the Faculty Speaker at the 2006 Retreat.

He studies the mechanisms by which P. aeruginosa causes disease, with special emphasis on the set of toxins transported by the type III secretion system. Click here for more information on Dr. Hauser's research.
